ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Interprets and enforces applicable laws, regulations and policies (e.g. subdivision regulations, flood zone regulations, road/bridge weight relations); Performs/assist engineering work involving the location, design, construction and maintenance of county roads, bridges, drainage systems, park and other public works; Assists in the fabrication of road signage; Administers, programs, operates and maintains computer system components (CAD system, Microstation/Open Roads, Office Suite, ALDOT Bridge
Inspection Software, Culvermaster, Flowmaster, FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox, etc.); Survey construction layout and data collection using Leica robotic total station and GPS base and rover system; Leads/Accompanies survey crew in field to set/check grade stakes and to collect field data; Lead/Accompanies the survey crew determining the precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapmaking, or other purposes; Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys and descriptions; Prepares plans, specifications and cost estimates for county road, bridge and public works construction; Inspects county, state and federal road and bridge construction projects and monitors status of work in progress; Tracks expenses of state and federal road and bridge construction projects, prepares reports and submits for reimbursement; Keeps accurate notes, records and sketches of data obtained and of work performed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a specialization in Civil Engineering. Must possess an Alabama Engineer Intern Certificate. Must have experience in land surveying and/or supplemented with course work. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license.
